About Our School

Sherbrooke Academy is situated in the Sherwood neighbourhood of Beaconsfield. An area of the Montreal West Island that offers a tranquil, small-town feeling. It is nestled between Lac St-Louis on the south side and Angell Woods on the north side. The community is a natural green space gem and sought out by families seeking proximity to parks, primary schools, recreation centres, sports programs, library and many cultural and leisure activities offered by the city. Although there are pockets of newer homes through the Sherwood area, most were built in the 1960s and vary from starter to executive homes.

During the 2015-2016 Lester B. Pearson School Board (LBPSB) major school change, St-Paul and Sherwood Forest Elementary Schools merged to form this new school. Sherbrooke Academy opened its doors as of July 1, 2016. It serves the community of Beaconsfield, Pointe-Claire and parts of Kirkland. The school offers a Franϛais Plus - French Immersion Program. The elementary school has two campuses: a Junior School, housing Kindergarten to grades 2 and a Senior School, housing grades 3 to 6. Sherbrooke Academy Junior is located at 230 Sherbrooke Street and Sherbrooke Academy Senior is located at 313 Windermere Road. Each campus has a principal.

The Junior Campus has a population of approximately 187 students. The Senior Campus has a population of approximately 300. Both campuses are surrounded by ample green space: bordering a park, swimming pool, baseball and soccer fields and hockey rink. The children of the Junior Campus have access to a large fenced in playground with jungle gyms, artificial turf, grass, pavement, park benches and an outdoor classroom. The Senior Campus’ playground extends to the park facilities.

Both campuses consist of two-storey buildings, with a gymnasium, stage and daycare facilities. Two days a week, for a nominal fee, healthy hot lunches are offered through our partner Chartwells.

On staff we have resource teachers and integration aides who help support children with social and/or behavioural issues. One day a week a spiritual animator is assigned to both campuses, who are an integral part of school life. A school social worker and nurse (attached to our local CSSS) are also on-call and visit on a regular basis. The school also benefits from the guidance of various school board educational consultants and student services consultants. The school works collaboratively with several social services partners such as: Centre de Santé et de services sociaux (CSSS), Victoria Order of Nurses (VON), Collective Community Services (CCS), the Missing Children’s Network, to name a few.

Every classroom at Sherbrooke Academy is equipped with an interactive electronic board. Students have access to electronic devices and media. Science, Technology, Arts, and Math are an integral part of the curriculum. Literacy is also a top priority, ensuring our children develop strong literacy skills, in both French and English, through various programs.

The mission of Sherbrooke Academy is to promote a safe and caring schools, which facilitates the personal, academic, spiritual and physical development of the students as lifelong learners with a growth mindset. We are dedicated to bringing all students to their individual levels of excellence by providing them with best teaching practices, experiences and role models. Our ultimate purpose is to help the students become a productive member of a global community, able to handle challenges and readily able to assume responsibility in a rapidly changing world. The school is part of the Peaceful Schools initiative and encourages peer mediation programs. We promote values of sharing with one another and caring for one another. We help each other and support each other. We understand that together we are strong. Respect, Safety, and Responsibility are truly important to each one of us and understand that it begins with each individual. We are also very conscious of our environment and our responsibility to preserve our environment to ensure that we can continue benefitting from its resources for years to come. Education is extremely important to all members of the school community and school success is acquired through commitment, perseverance and hard work. In nurturing the growth mindset, children are encouraged to learn from their mistakes. Part of learning is taking responsibility for mistakes, learning from the experience and making better choices. Our Code of Conduct and Anti-Bullying and Anti-Violence Plan revolve around being Respectful, Safe, and Responsible at all times.
